Abstract

Improvement in facility layout was crucial in enhancing productivity and efficiency in retail business. This research aims to identify an ideal arrangement of the existing layout within FredCor Coke Warehouse, a retail distributor of softdrinks including Royal, Coke, Sparkle, Sprite, water, alcoholic drinks, energizer drinks, and Magnolia. Coca-Cola as one of the key suppliers. However, the current layout revealed several issues, like excessive travel distances and difficulties in locating products due to mixed product placement, poor space utilization, and inefficient allocation which hinder worker productivity and effectiveness. A quantitative experiment research approach was adopted along with the SLP techniques and time study to investigate operational flows and process inefficiencies. The results showed serious inefficiencies in the layout, such as in pick-up, storing to picking took 11042.82 seconds covering 6454 cm distance, in Coca-Cola delivery, picking to locating took 4704.082 seconds covering 4857 cm distance compared to 4461 cm that only took 1692.7567 seconds in inbound to QA/QC process and in FredCor delivery, the longest process was storing to picking that took 12633.768 seconds covering 4878 cm distance. So, the findings call for a new arrangement in order to reduce the distance travelled, improve storing, and optimize space because a less structured layout delays workflow and reduce worker productivity, so addressing these will lead significant improvements in the productivity of the warehouse and its workers, supporting FredCors competitiveness and sustainability in the retail softdrink distribution business. The research showed that facility layout optimization was crucial for driving process success and productivity.
