Abstract
This study explored the challenges and opportunities encountered by out-of-field teachers handling Physical Education (PE) classes in selected secondary schools in Sariaya, Quezon. The research aimed to determine their experiences regarding motivation, confidence, physical competence, and subject matter knowledge, identify the challenges they face including lack of specialized training, limited opportunities, and assessment difficulties, and explore the opportunities for professional development, skill enhancement, and personal growth. Utilizing a qualitative research design, specifically the phenomenological method, data was gathered through structured interviews with five outof-field PE teachers. Thematic analysis was employed to analyze the collected data. Findings indicated that while these teachers are motivated by their passion for teaching and fitness, they often lack confidence and in-depth subject knowledge due to insufficient specialized training. Major challenges include difficulty in teaching technical topics, limited access to PE-specific training and resources, and struggles with appropriate assessment techniques. Despite these challenges, opportunities for growth were identified through professional development, skill enhancement by adapting teaching methods, and personal growth gained from stepping outside their comfort zones. Based on the findings, the study proposes a program titled Empowering Educators: PE Essentials for Out-ofField Teachers to address the identified challenges and enhance opportunities for these educators, ultimately aiming to improve the quality of Physical Education instruction
