Abstract
Athletic identity of student-athletes has gradually lost because they do not have enough motivation to continue participating in sports. This study investigated the relationship between athletic identity and sports motivation of student-athletes. It made use of a non-experimental quantitative design employing a descriptive predictive correlation. An adapted questionnaire was used as a tool in gathering the data. There were 100 student-athletes chosen through a purposive random sampling technique who served as the respondents of this study. The data gathered were analyzed using Mean, Pearson Product Moment Correlation of Coefficient, and Linear Regression. The result of this study found that the student-athletes have a high level of athletic identity. It was also revealed that student-athletes have a very high level of sports motivation. Thus, the analysis indicated that a significant relationship exists between athletic identity and sports motivation of student-athletes. Therefore, improving athletes’ competence shows to increase sports motivation of student-athletes. Others' support and encouragement are also essential factors in their success and high performance. Further, it is recommended that there should have a training or program specifically for sports coaches which will help them improve their skills in uplifting student-athletes’ athletic identity and help them build stronger sports motivation among the student-athletes.
