Abstract
This study entitled “Holistic Development Commonly Derived from Physical and Electronic Sports Activities”, investigate the holistic developmental commonly derived from participation in physical team sports and electronic sports (esports) among junior high school student-athletes in the School District of Talavera North and South during the 2025–2026 academic year. A population of 179 junior high school student-athletes enrolled during the Academic Year 2025–2026 was examined, revealing a predominantly adolescent respondent (45.8% of the aged 15–16) with a higher proportion of female participants (58.7%) and Grade 10 students represented the largest subgroup (34.1%). In terms of interests, more than half of the respondents identified online gaming as their primary interest (54.2%), Mobile Legends emerged as the dominant esport (58.7%), while Call of Duty accounted for 41.3% of player preference. For physical team sports, volleyball was identified as the most participated activity (44.1%), followed by basketball and other team sports. This study found that participation in esports and physical sports is highly prevalent among mid-adolescent students, forming a significant component of their leisure and competitive activities and establishing a demographic profile that informs subsequent developmental analysis. Findings revealed that students perceived substantial developmental benefits from participation in esports and physical team sports across five domains: improved cognitive skills (3.04%) Great Extent, enhanced teamwork (3.37%) Very Great Extent, stress relief (3.28%) Very Great Extent, discipline and focus (3.25%) Very Great Extent, and goal-setting and strategy (3.29%) Very Great Extent. Correlational analysis showed no significant relationships between most demographic variables and the five development domains, except for sex, which was significantly associated with stress relief, indicating males reported higher stress-reducing benefits. The study concludes that both esports and physical team sports serve as meaningful platforms for promoting holistic development among adolescents. The results highlight the importance of integrating structured digital and physical activities within school programs to support cognitive, socio-emotional, and behavioral growth. Recommendations include sustaining activity-based programs and formally recognizing esports as a complementary developmental platform rather than merely a recreational pastime.
