Abstract
Local migration is intensifying. In this study, I explored the viewpoints and standpoints of local migrants in Davao City on their reasons for leaving, attraction, and the intervening obstacles. Using a descriptive-qualitative design, interviewing 7 participants selected through convenient sampling, and using thematic analysis, I found that adjustment difficulties of migrants were mitigated through local ties and acquaintances. I propose that people considering migration ensure they have established contacts with families, relatives, and peers for potential support, and that a government agency be established to support local migrants. Mediation analysis using acculturation and enculturation struggles, as well as local ties and acquaintances, as mediators between economic and career aspirations and urban promises and opportunities, with subthemes serving as variable indicators.
