Abstract

Perceptions on sports-related injuries are poor. With this, I explored the factors that shape the perceptions of student-athletes on sports-related injuries. Using qualitative descriptive, interviewing six purposively selected participants, and analyzing the data via thematic analysis, I found that student-athletes’ injury perceptions are shaped by personal, behavioral, environmental, and contextual factors that influence how they interpret and respond to injuries. Collaborative support from coaches, healthcare providers, and school leaders may improve student-athletes’ perceptions and management of sports-related injuries. I see the importance of testing and identifying key predictors of student-athletes’ injury perceptions using multiple regression analysis and developing survey instruments through Exploratory Factor Analysis.
