Abstract

Climate debt consumes farms. I explored how small-scale sugarcane farmers perceive and navigate environmental and economic volatility. Using a qualitative descriptive design, I thematically analyzed interviews from 10 purposively selected sugarcane farmers to examine disturbances, absorptive capacity, and transformation after threshold.  I disclosed that extreme weather and predatory credit force are thresholds of asset liquidation. I recommend a multi-sectoral integration of local governance and the Strengthened SHS Curriculum to build farmer resilience through cooperative support and student-led innovation. Future research may use mediation models for adaptive capacities, mixed-methods for validation of claims, longitudinal vulnerability tracking to trace impacts, and contextual factor analysis for comprehensive understanding agricultural resilience.
