Abstract
Academic absenteeism is a concern in the academic field. I explored the perceived situations, mitigating actions, and gains of students from non-intact families regarding academic absenteeism. Qualitative descriptive research design, purposive sampling technique, in-depth interview approach, and thematic analysis were the methods I used. The data from six students revealed that participants experienced hardships leading to absenteeism. Through support systems, they survived and improved their learning engagement. School leaders may enhance support programs to improve resilience, confidence, and attendance among students from broken families. Future researchers may use a quantitative design to study how family instability and support systems influence academic engagement among Generation Alpha students from broken families, to identify key factors affecting absenteeism and coping for improved interventions.
