Abstract

Innovative work behavior is considered as one of the most important skills of being a teacher, crucial for enhancing student engagement, improving pedagogy and driving school success. This study aimed to investigate the mediating effect of organizational climate to the relationship between supervisory styles of school heads and innovative work behavior of teachers of 202 Department of Education teachers at Nagcarlan Sub-Office. They were selected through purposive sampling. The study utilized mediation analysis. Findings revealed that majority of the respondents belong to 40 years old and above, with 6 to 15 years of service in the department, occupying teachers 1 to 3 position and mostly married female teachers with postgraduate studies. Affiliating was found to be the most dominant supervisory style. The organizational climate circulating around the district is more of a professional teacher behavior. Moreover, teachers were found also to exercise innovative work behavior. Further, supervisory styles were found to be positively correlated with innovative behavior and organizational climate. In addition, organizational climate was found also to be positively correlated with innovative work behavior. Lastly, mediation analysis shows that organizational climate accounts for 69.14% of the overall effect and partially mediates the association between innovative work behavior and supervisory styles.
