Abstract

In the rapidly evolving manufacturing industry, cybersecurity has become a critical concern as organizations increasingly rely on digital systems and interconnected technologies. However, there is limited empirical evidence explaining how organizational efforts and employee awareness translate into consistent cybersecurity behavior through underlying cognitive processes. Addressing this gap, this study positions Threat Appraisal and Coping Appraisal as key mechanisms linking Organizational Information Security Effort and Employee Security Awareness to Security Protection Motivational Behavior. Specifically, the study investigated the effect of Organizational Information Security Effort on Employee Security Awareness and examined whether Threat Appraisal and Coping Appraisal mediate the relationship between Employee Security Awareness and Security Protection Motivational Behavior. A quantitative research approach employing a descriptive-causal design was utilized, with data collected through survey questionnaires. The respondents consisted of design engineers working in a manufacturing company in Batangas, Philippines, whose roles involve direct interaction with digital systems and sensitive information, enabling them to provide informed insights on cybersecurity practices. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods, including mean, standard deviation, regression analysis, and mediation analysis. The findings indicate that Organizational Information Security Effort significantly affects Employee Security Awareness, while Threat Appraisal and Coping Appraisal partially mediate the relationship between awareness and Security Protection Motivational Behavior. Based on this, organizations should strengthen their security initiatives, enhance awareness programs, and continuously develop employees’ capabilities to promote sustainable cybersecurity behavior
