Abstract
Hydroponics farming offers a sustainable and efficient approach to plant cultivation without soil by using nutrient-rich water solutions to nourish plant roots directly. However, farmers often encounter difficulties in maintaining optimal growing conditions because essential parameters such as pH level, electrical conductivity (EC), water temperature, and water level are still commonly checked manually. Manual monitoring is time-consuming and prone to error, which may produce inconsistent nutrient balance and reduced crop quality. To address this gap, this study developed an Internet of Things (IoT)-based web monitoring system for Green Batavia lettuce cultivation using the Nutrient Film Technique (NFT). The system automates and optimizes the monitoring and regulation of hydroponic parameters through real-time data acquisition and control. The web application was developed using PHP, Bootstrap, and Chart.js, with Firebase and MySQL for data storage and management. The IoT device uses an Arduino ATMega microcontroller, NodeMCU ESP8266 Wi-Fi module, pH, EC, temperature, and ultrasonic sensors, and actuators for automatic adjustments. Evaluation based on the ISO/IEC 25010:2011 Product Quality Model showed high precision, responsiveness, and timely web and SMS notification delivery when monitored parameters exceeded predefined thresholds. The results confirm the system's reliability, efficiency, and potential to improve hydroponic monitoring, management, and crop productivity.
