Abstract

Students’ engagement in physical activities has been declining. The influence of persistence and self-regulated learning strategies as determinants of engagement in physical activities was examined. Diagnostic research design, stratified random sampling, survey approach, and regression analysis were applied. The data from 150 junior and senior high students revealed that persistence and self-regulated learning strategies significantly influenced engagement physical activities, supporting Self-Determination Theory. Future research may explore additional variables to explain the remaining 32% variance in physical activities. School leaders may implement programs to enhance student persistence and self-regulated learning strategies in order for them to achieve a holistic well-being.
