Abstract
This study examined the effect of digital literacy on the entrepreneurial performance of smallholder farmers in Tingloy, Batangas, Philippines. Specifically, it assessed their digital literacy levels, determined the direct effect of digital literacy on their entrepreneurial performance, and investigated the mediating roles of entrepreneurial bricolage and opportunity identification in this relationship. Data was collected from 107 smallholder farmers across 10 associations using questionnaires. Descriptive statistics and regression analyses revealed that these farmers possess an “acceptable” level of digital literacy, with notable strengths in digital communication and awareness, but moderate competence in evaluation and ethical use. Regression analysis confirmed a significant positive effect of digital literacy on entrepreneurial performance (R2=0.766, p<0.001). Furthermore, the study established that both entrepreneurial bricolage (p=0.0004) and opportunity identification (p<0.001) significantly mediate this relationship, demonstrating how digital competence fosters resourcefulness and the ability to identify and capitalize on entrepreneurial opportunities. Consequently, all null hypotheses were rejected, confirming the significant influence of digital literacy on entrepreneurial performance. These findings highlight the importance of integrated training programs that develop not only digital skills but also creativity, opportunity-seeking behavior, and entrepreneurial thinking to foster rural innovation and economic growth.
