Abstract

Cities continue to transform in response to population growth, climate pressures, disaster risks, and changing urban needs. However, successful urban transformation should not be evaluated only through the construction of new buildings, but also through the ability to upgrade existing building stock into safer, more sustainable, and higher-performing urban assets. 

This paper examines resilient redevelopment strategies in historic and existing urban environments by exploring the relationship between façade strengthening, building performance improvement, sustainable material strategies, and the preservation of urban identity. 

Building upon these concepts, this study develops an integrated framework for resilient redevelopment that positions existing buildings as strategic resources for sustainable metropolitan development rather than physical constraints to urban growth. The discussion examines how façade performance, adaptive reuse, structural upgrading, environmental efficiency, and architectural conservation can be coordinated within comprehensive regeneration strategies that strengthen both urban resilience and community identity. The article further argues that preserving historic urban fabric should not be interpreted as limiting transformation, but as directing change through carefully integrated architectural interventions capable of improving safety, environmental performance, operational efficiency, and long-term urban value simultaneously.
